Step into the vibrant heart of Cuba on a journey that blends rhythm, nature, and history in perfect harmony. Begin in La Habana Vieja, where pastel façades, vintage cars, and infectious music fill the air. Wind your way into the emerald embrace of the Viñales Valley, where towering mogotes rise above patchwork of fertile tobacco fields, and time slows to the sway of farmers’ hands. Breathe in the earthy scent of the countryside as you meander through hidden trails, rustic villages, and open horizons. Continue toward Cuba’s southern coast, where harbors cradle turquoise waters and fishing boats rock gently in the breeze. Along the way, taste the island’s spirit in home-cooked meals, feel its warmth in every smile, and hear its heartbeat in the strum of a guitar. This is more than an outing—it’s an immersion into Cuba’s soul, from bustling streets to serene shores, carrying memories as vivid as the island itself.
Days 1-2
Our first days begin with a warm welcome to La Habana Vieja and exploration of the primary plazas and parks with an English-speaking guide who will be with us throughout our journey. Two special areas of Havana that we will visit will capture your heart – La Finca Vigia, Ernest Hemmingway’s Cuban home, and Fusterlandia, a Dr. Suess-like neighborhood full of ceramic art and playful creation. You will have free time to explore museums, craft markets, and stroll along the malecón to immerse yourself in authentic Cuban culture.
Days 3-4
After experiencing an incredible bit of history and culture in the incredible Cuban capital, we journey west into the magic of magotes and the Viñales Valley. After a midday visit to Las Terrazas and the home of famous musician Polo Montanez, we will enter the Viñales Valley with immense karst formations, caves, and rich valley floors. We will explore all of this and more via horseback and private car. You will experience the beautiful botanical gardens of Viñales, a cool, quiet reprieve from the bustling main street. Music is a must and you will have an opportunity to learn how to dance Cuban salsa, then try your new dancing skills out at the Polo Montañez Culture Center, right in the heart of Viñales. We will celebrate our last night in Viñales with a sunset tour and dinner at an organic farm overlooking the breathtaking valley.
Days 5, 6, and 7
Our journey takes us to the southern coast along Bahia de Cochinos, the Bay of Pigs. During our stay in Playa Larga, you will be immersed in history, music, natural beauty, flora and fauna of some of the most beautiful areas of Cuba. Hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, museums, birding, are all parts of this incredible mid-program experience. The largest wetland of the Insular Caribbean, El Parque de La Cienega de Zapata, welcomes you with open arms and will fill you with awe and wonder! Endemic species including the Cuban crocodile, Cuban trogan, bee hummingbird, Cuban tody, and other species such as the Amazon parrot, Cuban emerald hummingbird, and Cuban parakeet are just a few of the incredible creatures we may see during this stretch of our experience.
Days 8-9
After warming up our muscles during the morning of Day 7 with a relaxing, smooth-water kayak paddle in La Cienaga de Zapata, we will journey to Cienfuegos, named after José Cienfuegos Jovellanos. the Captain General of Cuba from 1816 to 1819. Here, along with learning some of the local history, we visit an entrepreneurial artisan business of plastics and listen to an incredible musical performance by Orquestra de Camara, then resume our journey to Trinidad.
Trinidad is one of the most beautiful colonial cities of Cuba. It has been restored to give you a magical experience of earlier times. Here, we will visit a local potter’s home where you learn about his business and make your own pot! After lunch, you will have time to explore Trinidad on your own.
Day 10
To culminate our soulful journey of Cuba, we will return to La Habana and close our program with an exceptional finale with dinner and traditional Cuban music, and lively dancing music and interaction with the band, dancers and vocalists.
Day 11
Our final and departure day will leave you will longing for more soulful adventures in Cuba!
